How Much Do Backlinks Cost in 2026? A Straight-Talking Price Guide

From $20 to $2,000: why backlink prices vary so much, what the research says, typical ranges by link type, our own full price list and the red flags to avoid.

Ask ten link sellers what a backlink costs and you will get ten answers, from $20 to $2,000. None of them are lying. They are selling different things under the same name. A backlink from a real, relevant site with organic traffic and a link from a page that exists only to sell links are not the same product, and pricing them together is how people end up overpaying for junk or underpaying for something that never works.

This guide breaks down what backlinks cost in 2026, what actually drives the price, and how to tell a fair price from a trap. We sell links ourselves, so we will show you our own prices too, in full.

What the research says

Two pieces of research get quoted more than any others, and they measure slightly different things.

  • Ahrefs contacted 450 websites asking to buy a link in an existing article. Only 12.6% agreed, at an average of $361.44 per link. In a separate test on guest posts, the average fee requested was $77.80, before paying for the article itself. (Ahrefs)
  • Authority Hacker surveyed 755 link builders and put the average cost of a paid link at $83. (As cited by Ahrefs)

The gap between $83 and $361 tells you most of what you need to know. Averages hide a very wide range. Cheap links pull the average down, and they are cheap for a reason.

Link typeWhat you getTypical market range
Link insertion (niche edit)Your link added to an existing, indexed articleAbout $100 to $500
Guest postA new article on a real site, link in the bodyAbout $100 to $600
Blogger outreachManually pitched placement on an independent niche blogAbout $150 to $700
Digital PREditorial coverage on news and major industry sitesOften $750+ per link, usually sold as campaigns
Bulk "packages"Dozens of links for a flat fee$20 to $80 per link

These ranges reflect what reputable vendors charge for sites with real traffic. You will find cheaper, and in the last row you will find a lot of it. That row is where most of the risk sits.

1. Organic traffic, not just Domain Rating

DR and DA are easy to inflate. Organic traffic from Google is much harder to fake. A site with DR 60 and 30,000 monthly visitors is a very different asset from a DR 60 site with 300. Fair pricing follows traffic and relevance, not the headline metric alone.

2. Niche

Links in finance, crypto, gambling, health and legal cost more. Fewer quality sites accept them, and editors are stricter. Expect to pay noticeably more than the ranges above in these niches.

3. Content and editorial work

A guest post price should include a properly written article. If it does not, add the cost of writing 700 to 1,000 words that an editor will accept. Cheap offers often skip this and publish thin, spun content, which is visible to anyone who reads the page.

4. Who does the outreach

A link from a site that openly sells posts is quick and cheap. A link earned by pitching an independent blogger takes days of work and a rejection rate, and is priced accordingly.

5. Guarantees

Links disappear. Publishers redesign, delete old posts or change links to nofollow. A seller that replaces lost links for a year is pricing in that risk; one that does not is passing it to you.

Our prices, in full

We publish our prices because we think buyers should be able to compare. These are our current per-link prices by minimum DR. Writing is included on guest posts and outreach, and every link is replaced free if it is removed or nofollowed within 12 months.

Orders of 5 or more links get 5% off, and 10 or more get 10% off. If you would rather hand over the whole programme, our monthly plans start at $1,990 for 8 links a month and include the planning, anchor strategy and reporting.

What a realistic monthly budget looks like

The honest answer is that it depends on the gap between you and the sites outranking you. A few rough starting points:

  • Local business or new site in a low-competition niche: 3 to 5 relevant links a month is often enough to see movement. Roughly $600 to $1,000.
  • Established SME in a competitive market: 8 to 15 links a month to a handful of commercial pages. Roughly $1,600 to $3,500.
  • SaaS or ecommerce competing nationally: 15 to 30+ links a month, mixed across types, plus content that deserves the links. Roughly $3,500 and up.

The best way to size a budget is to compare the number of relevant referring domains pointing at your page with the pages ranking in the top five for your keyword. If they have 40 and you have 6, you know roughly how far you have to go.

  • "DR 70 links for $25." The metric has almost certainly been manipulated, or the site sells hundreds of links a month.
  • No list of sites before you pay. If you cannot see where your link will go, you cannot judge it.
  • Every site accepts every niche. Real publishers have a focus. Sites that publish casino, CBD and dog food posts on the same day are link farms.
  • Guaranteed ranking positions. Nobody controls Google's rankings. A seller who promises a position is telling you something about their honesty.
  • No traffic data. If the seller will not show organic traffic, assume there is not much.

Links are still one of the strongest signals Google uses, and for most commercial keywords you will not rank without them. Whether buying them is worth it comes down to two things: the quality of what you buy and whether the page receiving the links deserves to rank. A strong link pointing at a thin page is money spent on the wrong problem. If you are unsure which problem you have, start with an SEO audit.

Frequently asked questions

Why are backlink prices so different between sellers?

Because the product is different. Price follows real traffic, relevance, niche, content quality and guarantees. Two "DR 50 guest posts" can be worth completely different amounts.

Is one expensive link better than ten cheap ones?

Usually, yes, if the expensive link is relevant and on a real site. Ten links from pages built to sell links can do nothing, or do harm.

Do you charge extra for writing?

No. A 700+ word article is included in every guest post and outreach price.

Can I see the sites before paying?

Yes. Every site in our marketplace shows its DR, organic traffic, niche and price, and nothing is charged until we confirm your order.
